Vehicles with Ford AXODE or AX4S transmissions often exhibit converter clutch apply and release problems, which are most affected by high operating temperatures. These problems can be caused by severe wear of the valve body bore at the bypass clutch control valve, which allows regulated converter charge oil leakage. If the valve bore is worn, converter feed and lube oil will exhaust and MCCC (modulated converter clutch control) solenoid control is lost.
